Local Greed Outsourced

Support Local they say. Support your local community! Support local business! Support local music! Shop Local! Everyone says they want to support local. It feels good to say it and it feels good to hear it. It’s nice. It’s wholesome. It’s not very convenient though. It takes longer, it cost more, and half the time they don’t have what you need anyway. This is the price we pay to support local. This is what it takes to keep our dignity. We support each other as much as we can despite the inconvenience when compared to online shopping.

The idea of Supporting Local is not limited to shopping though. Your town likely has a thriving community of people who help each other in many ways.

Some people simply can not afford it but wish they could. There is no shame here for this. We do what we HAVE to do to survive.

Some other people don’t care at all about supporting local. They want the cheapest deal possible. They want it RIGHT NOW. They only care about themselves ironically at ANY COST. Greed is usually the true motive for being this way. Greed towards money, land, power, or in the case of most local government, all of the above.

The compromise is their own integrity. They outsource for max gains and there is rarely anything about outsourcing that supports local anything.

(Obviously besides outsourcing to another local company.)

All Corruption is Bipartisan.

What happens when someone like that becomes powerful in your community? They make shady deals for profit naturally. They will loudly promote SUPPORT LOCAL while simultaneously stabbing the community in the back for profit through various secret deals. Your local city council will always approve upgrades to the streets surrounding council members houses and certain private businesses will always get coddled. Certain people will always get the grants. They will attempt to reject anything that may hurt the value of their secret land deals no one is supposed to know about. Maybe their buddies company will win a highly inflated city contract. Maybe they will receive bribes to push through city tax credit deals and call it “Local development”. How many local politicians in your town are also Realtors? How many are business owners notorious for ripping people off? How many have a sibling or cousin or friend who gets special treatment? Maybe they buy land through a proxy LLC and then push the city to develop that area for them which drastically increase the property value. How many remote development firms do you see encroaching on your town? These people are usually businessman first and politician second. They will always have a proxy to hide behind. They will wring your community dry like a wet rag and move on leaving behind only the streets, committees, and foundations they have named after and awarded themselves. Suddenly your small town is a big town and they call it progress.

It’s Happening Right Now

We see corruption on world and national news every day. I doesn’t even matter what side you are on, take your pick. Greed is undeniably controlling most of our planet. Do you have a local news TV station? Probably not actually. Most local news stations are actually controlled by a larger national company. Do you have a local radio station that you enjoy? Yeah about that… Also owned by a large corporation. These companies decide what locals see and hear in the news. Don’t even get me started on Facebook. What I would like to try and focus on is LOCAL Corruption, but how CAN we when nearly everything local has been outsourced? Not just my local, but YOUR local as well.

What do we do about it?

Well, we can try at least. That would be a start.

Am I just one of those conspiracy theory guys? IDK man go check for yourself.

Think critically.

Not everything is an evil plot. When a new city plan comes around ask yourself: Who actually benefits from this? Is this good for our local community or bad? Do some digging on your own and see who owns what. Don’t just parrot whatever the mayor said or whatever the police chief said. Verify it for yourself. Plenty of information is accessible to the public. If something feels wrong, it is probably wrong. Trust that feeling. Put yourself in their shoes. Hypothetically, How would YOU cover your tracks if the whole town was watching? Is it even possible? You may be able to simply follow the money but crime has evolved. You must also. For local government you may have better luck following land development deals. Maybe look for streets and buildings named after people you wouldn’t expect. They just cant help but to name it after themselves! Expose them using public and honestly obtained facts only. Anything else may land you in court for libel. Watch your local news even though they are literally owned and controlled by corporate overlords. Understand that. Watch your local Judges. Watch your city council. If you live in a town with a large factory. Watch the factory. Notice when they get special favors. If you live in a college town… Good luck.

Most importantly: VOTE

Even if you believe your local zoning districts are rigged (they are) vote anyway. If you believe in honesty, justice, and transparency then you must speak your mind. Truly honest people are drastically outnumbered. Even If you believe your voice doesn’t matter or your vote won’t count, Do it anyway.

Speak your truth based on facts.

No one else will.
